Eduardo y Gerardo Brun Irisarri – Forjas Brun

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

Forjas Brun is a family business which has been running since 1772, being a key referent in the conservation of their craft, especially in Navarre. The knowledge and know-how of the blacksmith’s craft has been passed on from one generation to the next. Part of this family have been the following members: Babil Brun, born in 1771; Ángel Brun, 1801; Cirilio Brun Martínez, 1834; Florentino Brun Garrido, 1861; Abdón Brun Teus, 1906; Gerardo Brun Lapuente, 1936; and the brothers Gerardo and Eduardo Brun Irisarri, 1968 and 1970 respectively, who currently work at the forge and hope to transmit their passion and knowledge of the craft to the next generation. 

They have been for almost 350 years linked to iron, using old techniques and combining them both with traditional forms and the most avant-garde designs. They have received many awards linked to design in crafts, fairs and exhibitions, both at a national and international level. Moreover, they have spent the last 30 years training people interested in the field of forge and welding. 

Using the traditional forging techniques, in a forge which even has a bellow dating from the 13th century, they carry out the rehabilitation of old pieces as well as a large variety of new ones, from interior rails and balconies, fencing, gates, wrought iron grilles and doors for dwellings and religious buildings, to stoves and chimneys, signs and shields, sculptures, furniture and all sorts of small-scale locksmithing elements such as aldabas (door knockers), hinges, handles or nails.
