DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
The blacksmith’s shop Forja Gildo was founded in 1870. Since then, four generations of master artisans have been working there. Today, Javier Pacheco continues the family business, doing his best to adapt to the new times. Due to its long history as an artisanal family business, they belong to the Federation of Artisans of Castilla la Mancha, acknowledged as an artisanal business since 1968.
The forge is an indispensable element in this workshop, as it gives the elements they manufacture their character, since they carry out the works manually. They first heat the pieces up in the forge and then they shape them with the aid of a hammer.
They manufacture all sorts of traditional forged iron elements such as balconies, gates, fences, door gates and grilles for windows, locksmithing elements or nails for doors, among others. They also manufacture a specific sort of grille, the reja de forja castellana. In addition, they carry out in an artisan way lanterns, wall lamps, furniture and other decorative elements.
APPRENTICESHIP
The craft has been learnt in the workshop itself since it’s a family business. It has been progressively perfected and refined via the experience of four generations.
