DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
Andreu Pluja comes from a family whose members have professionally dedicated their lives to the world of stone and which, therefore, have over 35 years of experience in the field.
He masters different types of works in which the main raw material is stone, which he carries out in a traditional way, always aiding himself by using a series of implements such as hand tracers, bull point chisels, maces, bush hammers, etc. The different tools are skilfully used in the carving and finishing of the stone, thus, transmitting the material the qualities which are only achieved when the product is completely artisanal.
In his works he uses the stone which can be found easily in the area: sandstone, calcareous stone or granitic stone. Frequently, it is him who finds and extracts the raw material. Each one of these types of stone have different characteristics, which is the reason why the artisanal work must adapt to their different kinds of hardness and other peculiarities. This capacity of the artisan to adapt is somehow a proof and a guarantee that the craftsman masters both the craft and the material.
APPRENTICESHIP
He comes from a family of stone artisans. Therefore, he started in the craft as an apprentice from a very young age.
SELECTED WORKS
He carries out both works for private clients and public administrations. Among his works it is worth highlighting the many churches and monasteries, such as, for example, the Cathedral of Girona.
