Jon Santibáñez is a builder specialized in construction with raw earth. He specializes in the manufacture of adobes and the construction of rammed earth walls.
He carries out both newly built constructions and restoration works. Among these works, the advisory on pathologies regarding already-built constructions and new buildings has gained importance, developing the formulation of mixtures for mud walls and renders.
Jon has contributed both to retrieve a lost craft, thanks to his perseverance and lots of hard work, and the conservation of the heritage by passing on all this knowledge.
For eighteen years he has combined working and training, since working with earth requires a real good knowledge of the craft.
A large part of his training and learning process had to be via books and not via practice, since this craft – in Spain – is practically lost. For this reason, when large works for public or unique buildings have been undertaken, these have had to be carried out oftenly by foreign companies.
He has collaborated on occasion with the School/Workshop of the Cathedral of Palencia, delivering specific modules on construction with earth, oriented towards restoration of heritage.
He has also delivered specific courses on adobe walls, renders and adobe masonry.
Among his works it is worth highlighting:
