DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

Raúl Gimeno Marco, within the framework of his work for the company PROYES, has specialized in different crafts related to traditional architecture and the use of materials such as earths, gypsum, lime or wood. 

His tenacity and determination when it comes to developing his craft has enabled him to master many different techniques, such as the construction of walls made of adobe or rammed earth, tiled roofs or wooden horizontal structures. This enables him to face complete works where different traditional constructive systems are to be implemented since it is those to which he has dedicated his entire professional career. 

Raúl Gimeno masters the appropriate formulation and granulometry of lime products. This enables him to identify what types of aggregates and earths he must use for each work. He uses lime as the main material for mortars in bricklaying, paving or tile laying, as a conglomerate in the construction of walls, in finishings (interior and exterior) as well as in the finishing phase, whether it’s in the shape of limewash, paints or applying it as lime water for the execution of patinas, varying in each case the formulation according to the specific needs of a thicker or thinner mix, with more or less water, etc. 

He also masters the execution of gypsum finishing, being able to carry out his work over masonry walls or other simpler wall constructions. 

He understands that traditional architecture is linked not only to traditional materials but also its tools, reason behind the fact he still uses this type of implements in his works, even when manufacturing wood elements for walls when it is required or when, he himself, manufactures the adobes when the job to be done is to retrieve a wall using this technique. 

When it comes to the supply of the material for these restoration works, as far as possible, he opts for reusing those of the building which are not damaged and can still be used. An example of this can be found when he re-uses bricks, or stone ashlars with the ultimate intention of the entire work being finally integrated within the existing construction in the most respectful way.
