Julio César has worked as a craft woodcarver since the age of 21.
He carves in a wholly artisanal way, whether for new objects or for restorations of anything involving carving. He also does woodturning for ornamental stands, pedestals, image-carrier floats, etc. A large part of… his output is carved reproductions of antique pieces for restorations, such as religious statues or lost parts of statues, corbels, etc., and he also works for other joiners and carpenters in jobs involving special and complex pieces, such as carved doors, curving handrails, etc.
He uses traditional carver’s tools: gouges, mallets, lathes, etc., to which he adds a milling machine for initial processes.
Julio took vocational training in Segovia (at the Ezequiel González School) and training in woodwork in Madrid (at the Virgen de la Paloma Polytechnic Institute). In the afternoons he worked with the master carver José Acedo, from whom he learnt the craft.
He gave courses for women on restoration, carving and joinery at Segovia Town Hall for two years, and another course on carpentry and joinery at prisons in Segovia province also for two years.
