Aitor Rico carries out studies in stereotomy of stone, stone sculpture works and artistic masonry, as well as its application to architecture. He also carries out studies in the handling of tools and specific methodology such as the use of the pneumatic hammer for stone… carving and for the tracing and carving of arches, vaults, elaboration of staircases (caracol mallorquina…). He also acquires knowledge on the pointing technique, carving of reliefs and many other techniques related to the cutting of the stone.
Among his activities and abilities we can find the following: rehabilitation and construction of rural houses, carpentry works relating to Heritage, wooden horizontal structures (sanding, wood treatment and placing), rehabilitation, adjustment and waterproofing of horizontal structures, building works with traditional techniques, materials and methodology, including those works with lime mortar, dry stone constructions or using clay. They also carry out traditional tiled roofs (with local stone from Huesca, used there in traditional architecture) and paving and flooring made of stone. Moreover, they also carry out carving works for construction purposes (carving of stone for corner pieces), working the stereotomy of the stone, stone sculptural elements, artistic masonry and of architectural application, tracing and carving of arches and vaults, manufacture of staircases, carving using the pointing method, carving of reliefs, etc. They master different techniques relating to the cutting of the stone and the different ways of working with it.
Aitor Rico Liria is a stonemason. His professional training started in the field of construction, where, after various years working in industrial construction he decided to move on to traditional construction with the company Mallata under the direction of Jesús García Mainar. His training as… a stonemason was carried out at the Crafts Centre in León, where he carried out an advanced masonry course with Pedro García Primo. Afterwards, he started to work in traditional construction with a few halts in his career to carry out different courses:
– Course on “Técnicas de escultura en piedra” (Techniques for manufacturing stone sculptures) in Deva, lasting 5 months, in the year 2014
– Course on the use of stone and lime in rehabilitation and new construction works, in Barbastro (Huesca).
– Course on floor paving in Aulas (Lleida).
– Course on Health and Safety, especially oriented to building works.

– Private dwellings in different villages of the… area of Serrablo, belonging to the Alto Gállego, Huesca.
– Dry stone wall located in the portal to the Quesería Oxhortical, in Villanúa.
– Garden pieces and benches made of stone located in the terrace of the Bar Sansanet, in Jaca, Huesca.
– Carving of two coats of arms in limestone (crema de Castilla), measuring 85x80x10 cm.
– Manufacture of different works in Saumedes (Orense), including: granite stone paving, restoration of dwelling walls in granite, flooring made of tiles of fired clay, and clay and straw finishings both for interiors and exteriors.
