Calle Doctor Redondo Flórez, 10 – 24700 Astorga
The artisan Enrique Morán learnt the craft of joinery from his father. He has made all sorts of woodwork, such as roofs, windows, verandas, doors of various kinds, wardrobes, staircases, etc.
Much of his work is artistic carving, such as furniture pieces carved in low and… high relief, Easter image-carriers, religious sculptures, busts, etc.
Enrique Morán has also done much work in churches and convents, such as restorations of altarpieces and choir stalls, roof restorations and other refurbishments.
Since 1998 he has had his own workshop, where he has engaged increasingly in woodcarving.
He started working at the age of 14 in his father’s workshop, who was also a joiner and cabinetmaker. He then spent four years with the Seoane brothers in Madrid, where he took a keen interest in carving.
Work for the Cathedral of Astorga, and in the same town, Gaudí’s Bishop’s Palace, the Church of San Bartolomé, the Church of Santa Marta and the Sancti Spiritus and Santa Clara Convents; the Church of San Andrés (Ponferrada), the Church of Santos Justo y Pastor… (San Justo de la Vega) and the Monastery of Sandoval (Mansilla de las Mulas).
His less ordinary work notably includes headstocks for bells in Murias de Rechivaldo, Easter image-carriers for processional confraternities in Astorga and Ponferrada, or the making of over twenty carved flag staffs.
Enrique Morán’s outstanding creation is the Christ of Love and Forgiveness that presides over the Church of San Pedro de Rectivía in Astorga.
