Artesanía Martín Garballo is a firm specialised in traditional carpentry, and Jorge Miguel Martín Garballo has been demonstrating his skill in this craft for over 20 years.
His firm makes doors, Mudéjar and classic ceilings, corbels, pillars, woodcarvings, divider screens, etc.
Jorge Miguel masters techniques such as… woodcarving or strapwork carpentry. He generally starts his projects with a design drawn freehand. He then cuts and roughs the wood, marking it as appropriate. For carving he uses traditional tools: gouges, V-tools, etc. He also uses more modern equipment that saves him labour. When joining pieces, where the work so requires, he makes lap joints or uses metal fastenings. As protective coatings he applies water-based varnishes and on occasion polychrome.
The wood he uses most is pine (of the best quality), although he also works with cedar and oak.
Jorge Miguel learned the trade from other craftsmen and also through his own experience. He took vocational training courses in cabinetry and wood-carving in Granada, and in Mudéjar carpentry in Málaga.
