Los Abetos Nº7 – 28294 Robledo de Chavela
A builder of vaults, master plasterer and lecturer in several university master’s restoration courses, Carlos Martín Jiménez has to date been involved in the building and restoration of over 300 vaults.
He heads the firm CREA Restauración de Bienes Culturales S.L., with which he has carried… out many restorations, including some of the most notable such projects performed in Spain over the past 30 years.
He has explored historical building techniques and developed new methods for heritage conservation and restoration, and is also the author of a range of publications on plasterwork and vaulted structures.
He received training within his family, which consists of generations of builders and masons. Much of his expertise comes from tradition and the traditional way of passing on know-how, from master to apprentice.
He continues to learn and to acquire knowledge through the study and analysis… of historic architecture, along with the practice of restoration and research in what he sees as a collective creation of knowledge, with experiences being shared with other professionals at conferences and seminars.
He shares and disseminates his research experiences through conferences, workshops and seminars in the chief postgraduate restoration courses in Spanish universities, albeit without neglecting the traditional way of teaching trades, with apprentices on worksites with whom he builds all sorts of vaults and domes.
Carlos Martín… is the author of various publications: chapters of books on restoration, articles in journals such as Informes de la Construcción, and papers given at building history conferences.
