Dcal is a business dedicated to the elaboration of materials for construction made of air lime, all of them with an industrial process behind, however, in a 100% natural way, with no additives nor chemicals.
The process of manufacture is modern, with a team of chemical… engineers who endorse it, always respecting a very traditional model based on the usage of lime of an extremely-high purity, natural water from a well, sands and limestone from their own quarry and months of leaving the material to set. It is the simplest way of continuing to produce today the most ancient products. As a result, they obtain products of excellent quality, long-lasting, which do not require maintenance and are very easy to use.
All the products DCal manufactures are made using air lime as its base. The limestone comes from the quarry of Puebla de Albortón, where they find an incredibly pure material. This sort of lime is – over – 95% pure in its composition.
They extract and manufacture air lime in the following types and formats: oxide (quicklime), hydroxide (slaked lime), lime putty (lime left to age for a minimum of 6 months) and mortars with different granulometries and colours made of lime putty, as well as lime water and paints.
The workers of this business are graduated in different engineering degrees, chemistry, biology and business sciences among others.
The knowledge of the processes of extraction and firing of lime has passed on from one generation to the next. It is a family business where all there… is to know has been transmitted from generation to generation.
To train in the task of aging of lime putty, they have received advice and they have visited the best factories of grassello di calce, in the north of Italy. They have also received advice on specific machinery and training from the Italian masters.
In terms of dosing, appliance and knowledge regarding the use of these materials, such as stuccoes, sgraffiti, hot-ironed stuccoes, imitation of stone…these have been acquired in Homo Faber with Paco Azconegui and Mónica Martín. They have also attended various courses in order to master and perfect their techniques in different places throughout Spain.
They deliver specific lime-related courses at the MA in Bioconstruction IEB Baubiologuie and in the MA of the University of Girona, apart from other training courses in professional schools of architects and technical architects.
