Carrer del Peu de la Creu, 21 Bis – 08001 Barcelona
Jorge Alberto is a master glazier with more than 47 years’ experience, specialised in lead-came stained glass.
His work respects the traditional principles of came glasswork, dating from medieval times and largely unchanged in technique since then.
He does both new work and restoration. He asserts that… what accounts for the craft’s lasting significance and continuity is its durability and integrity.
In his work he uses tools that have evolved from the original ones of the trade. For cutting, diamonds have been superseded by tungsten carbide blades, and for melting tin, electric soldering irons are used now. Furnaces for enamelling with sulphides, oxides and selenite have also evolved. But Jorge maintains that the poetry that is part of the process retains its essence.
Although he has been plying his trade for over 30 years in Barcelona, he also worked for years in Argentina.
Jorge Alberto Aragone learned the trade from Juan Mota, an Argentinean master glazier. He started out as an apprentice in Mota’s workshop in the city of Rosario (Argentina), which he later took over himself. He has also learned from other masters such as Jorge Curutchet… (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Anzolo Fuga (Murano, Venice).
He has had several apprentices who have later opened their own workshops, both in Argentina and in Spain.
