Lauren produces work with a large artistic component, whether in classical, modern or bespoke styles. He also does restorations, starting with a preliminary study of each project, offering solutions to the various defects to be found in stone.
He uses traditional stonework techniques and methods, combining… traditional tools with modern ones that can facilitate such work and prevent injuries.
He starts his work process by selecting stone in a quarry. The blocks are cut up and rough-hewn in his workshop on a cutting table with water cooling, which eases the task and also makes it healthier by preventing the release of dust.
The carving process is done with traditional tools, such as point, toothed or flat chisels, and assisted by electrical and pneumatic devices such as angle-grinders for cutting, sanding and polishing, or pneumatic hammers for roughing and carving.
Lauren Garcia learnt his craft through the Trade Schools programme in Alcaraz with the master artisan Narciso Villacañas.
He has been a stonework instructor in the Trade Schools of Almansa and La Roda (Albacete province).
