The work that La Mufla carries out is completely artisanal: they create and design murals, façades, fountains, socles and advertisement signage, as well as tiling and embossed tiles, façade finishes, architectural mouldings, etc. “Ceramics decorated by hand, where each brushstroke is important, the wash is… accurate and the glaze is subtle. In the only possible way, trusting the hands of the artisan in their elaboration, a hard task with an always uncertain result until the very end, when the fire is the one saying the last word and the difference in tone appears, making each and every piece unique and exclusive. The fire, which is the key element in ceramics: its closest friend and, sometimes, its most severe judge”.
They have carried out works for churches, such as presbyteries, façades, liturgical furniture, etc. and reproducing old pieces in restorations. The essential bases of the development of their creations are the techniques they use since the olden days in traditional ceramics. The combination of several of them gives way to a unique and original creative style.
The learning process was self-taught, even though the mastering of certain techniques was possible thanks to attending the School of Applied Arts, Artistic Crafts and Fine Arts in Sevilla. At the Academy Formas, in Barcelona, the focus was set on learning about the formulation of… enamels. Lastly, in Madrid, they learnt about the firing process and the different types of furnaces available.
They have delivered courses at the Town Council of Manzanilla for five years, and they have also taught teachers of state schools like the IES in Moguer, Huelva, for two years. Many have been the students who have carried out their internships at the workshop… coming from schools such as the School of Applied Arts of Huelva, the School of Artisans of Gerves, in Sevilla, and the School of Applied Arts, Artistic Crafts and Fine Arts in Sevilla.
