This family firm has a tradition in ceramics dating back to 1875, in Alacelles (Lleida province). They specialise in making clay tiles and bricks of various types, such as handcrafted Aragonese bricks, solid Aragonese bricks, and red, pink or rustic bricks.
The process starts with the… extraction of clay, which they do themselves. In the grinding area the various clay types are sorted into silos. The bricks are then handcrafted and left to dry in the open air. Then they are fired in a Hoffmann kiln. Finally the end product is palletised and stored in the yard.
No two items are the same thanks to this artisanal process conferring rich colouring that cannot be achieved by more industrial methods.
The expertise in this family firm has been handed down from father to son over six generations.
More experienced workers teach new ones.
Their work has been used in buildings of all kinds, notably including:
– Esteban Martín Alfamén winery (Zaragoza province)
– Museo de la Colegiata in Borja (Zaragoza province)
– Priorat de Masarac (Girona province)
