Cefoarte is a Sevillian company founded by Rafael Castaño Gómez specialised in the old artisan ceramic tradition long established on the banks of the river Guadalquivir.
At their factory in Alcalá de Guadaira they craft products for restoring artistic and monumental ceramics as well as decorative… ceramics and ironwork. With traditional techniques they make murals, sconces, washbasins, bathroom fittings, flowerpots, goblets, lamps, figures, busts, columns, lampposts, finials, fountains and plinth tiling.
All of their work is made and painted traditionally. When a pattern recurs on many articles, they use a stencilling technique, making a copy of the original design and reproducing it on other pieces. Each piece is then traced over and painted with oxides. Then the items are fired in a kiln for 24 hours at 980°C and left to cool for another full day. After this time the material will have acquired the lustre and colour characteristic of traditional Sevillian ceramics.
The son of a ceramicist, Rafael Castaño Gómez began as an apprentice at the age of 16 in Calle Alfarería in the Sevillian district of Triana. He continued to learn traditional ceramic techniques at other famed Sevillian workshops until he set up his own firm.… With Cefoarte he distributes craft ceramics worldwide.
