Carrer Priorat nº 49 – 08328 Alella
Ramón Guarda Perera has worked for all his life in traditional building, performing all building tasks. He received all his training from his father, as the latter’s apprentice.
In view of his experience amassed over a long career in traditional building, he now focuses his activity… on the creation of didactic videos about traditional construction for his YouTube channel, including a Traditional Building Course.
He also professionally reproduces structures in scale models (1:3 or 1:5), with the same techniques and materials used in full scale, normally with ceramic bricks.
He is currently giving individual in-person courses on traditional building in Alella (Barcelona province) to young people interested in learning such techniques.
At the age of 14 he began working as a labourer in a building firm in Alella in which his father, Juan Guarda Viader, was his master. Over years of gaining knowledge and experience he rose through the various grades until he became general manager.… In 1977 he began working independently, setting up his own building firm.
– In 2000, at the Builders’ Guild of Mataró and Comarca, under a contract with the Gaudí Institute of Construction, he began giving a yearly 200-hour course in traditional building
– For Mataró Town Council, within its SOM employment service, he gave three 750-hour courses in… traditional building (60% practical work and 40% theory)
– At the Miguel Biada Institute in Mataró he gave four traditional building courses as part of an intermediate-level training programme
– At the Orígenes Trade School in Les Planes d’Hostoles (Gerona province) he delivers two vault-building workshops
– Through the Greta project he participates in four vault-building courses (two for builders and two for technicians)
– Currently in Alella he gives individual in-person courses on traditional building
In Vilassar de Dalt (Barcelona province), for the 2014 Barcelona Architecture Festival 48H OPEN HOUSE BCN, “Guastavino and the Catalan Vault”, he built a pyramidal sail vault resting on four pillars with the aid of a local builder
At Construmat in 2015 he built a vault… structure under the direction of the MAP13 architects’ group for the ITEC Building Technology Institute
