ACTIVITY
Roberto Figueira’s trade is carpentry, woodcarving and joinery. He makes doors, windows, staircases, floor and roof structures and furniture in various styles.
He builds all sorts of wooden assemblies using traditional techniques and tools (planes, a two-man saw, handsaws, chisels and gouges). He also uses modern… glues and resins for joints. His finishes are executed with wax, shellac, oil or (according to use) modern varnishes and lasur stains.
TRAINING
In the family carpentry workshop, going back two generations, as well as through old and modern carpentry manuals.
TEACHING
Private beginners’ courses on woodcarving and sculpture.
Craft demonstrations (carving and joinery) at various events: fairs, fêtes and workshops in schools.
SELECTED WORK
Various liturgical furnishings.
Doors of the churches of Pacios (Lugo province), Rianxo and Taragoña (La Coruña province). In the latter he also renovated the gallery and windows.
