Calle Condres S/N – 33449 Bocines, Gozón
This workshop is devoted to wooden joinery and specialises in traditional Asturian hórreo and panera granaries (the latter having six or more staddle stones), along with other traditional local structural carpentry. It has restored hórreo and panera granaries and also sheds, huts, roofs of houses,… furniture, carts, etc.
The firm’s hallmark is its respect not just for traditional timber-building techniques but also for traditionally used proportions and materials. Thus where possible they use chestnut and oak in their projects, as these are the finest, most authentic and most durable woods. They also respect traditional roofing systems: monk-and-nun tiles, slate or thatch roofs, normally depending on the area where they are working. Moreover, where possible they avoid the use of metal nails, as chestnut tannins will corrode iron over time. Instead they use traditional carpentry jointing and wooden pegs.
Santiago studied at the El Prial centre in Infiesto (Asturias).
