Taller de Arte Salmerón S.L. was founded in 1970 by Luis Salmerón, a master craftsman in every phase of the manufacture of artefacts, proficient at the various techniques involved (sculpture, carving, gilding, polychromy, etc.). His sons Luis David, who has run the firm for over… 25 years, and Óscar, its sculptor and artistic director, have continued the family workshop which over more than 45 years has progressively incorporated apprentices and master artisans in various disciplines.
Today the workforce is made up of restorers, sculptors, gilders, stuccoists, carpenters, carvers, goldsmiths and painters, backed by years of experience.
The work done in this woodshop ranges from the manufacture of image carriers and floats to the building of complete altarpieces, church fittings of all kinds (pews, confessionals, vestry chests, choir stalls or kneelers) or display cabinets for church museums. They also produce wooden sculptures and gold accessories.
Another of the workshop’s busiest sections is restoration – of imagery, altarpieces, image carriers, etc., as all necessary technical and human resources are on hand for restoring and conserving catalogued artworks.
The firm’s founder, Luis Salmerón, learnt his craft first as an apprentice in Santiago Lara’s now-defunct Nuestra Señora de la Asunción workshop in Socuéllamos.
His sons, Luis David and Óscar, studied fine arts, specialising in restoration and sculpture respectively.
They have made an agreement with the Valencia Polytechnic University for graduate placements in the fields of restoration and conservation.
