Camino Bandris S/N – 07500 Manacor, Mallorca
Teulera Tejar Bandrís is directed by Antonio Bauzá, part of the Bauzá family’s third generation of ceramicists. The firm’s history began more than 50 years ago with his grandfather Antonio, who owned clay pits near Manacor (Mallorca) and later acquired the tile-works. When Antonio Bauzá… inherited the firm from his father he set out to revive traditional crafts and to recover Mallorcan building materials which were becoming lost, such as curved clay ceiling tiles, while also innovating and developing more up-to-date products.
The firm uses traditional materials: water, clay and firewood. The raw material is premium clay from their own quarry. Given its peculiar characteristics and in particular its great elasticity, it can be made into all kinds of earthenware.
All of their products are distinctly natural and environmentally friendly. Each piece is fired slowly, allowing greater thickness where required and higher durability and quality. Their dedication and expertise earned them the award of a “Mestre artesà teuler” master tiler’s certificate (No 884) by the Mallorca Island Council, among other craft and quality recognitions.
Currently at Teulera Tejar Bandrís there are six artisans devoted to giving quality and distinction to the firm’s products, whether decorative objects or the building materials of traditional architecture. They produce a great range of items including large steps, fiola windowsills, curved and flat Mallorcan brick-tiles, paving tiles, plinth tiles, tova paving tiles, rosettes, edgings, bottle racks, latticework, classic tiles, clay gutters and piping with accessories and all sorts of decorative and garden items, as well as clays for other artisans on the islands. Their know-how and expertise with clay has also allowed them to work with prominent architects and interior designers, for whom they have designed bespoke objects and artefacts.
Antonio has inherited the expertise of the family trade. He is part of a third generation of ceramicists, and has also learned from other craftspeople.
