Viarca is a workshop devoted to the creation, restoration and maintenance of artistic stained glass, founded in Málaga in 1985 by Alberto Cascón Martín.
Alberto masters craft glasswork techniques such as lead-came stained-glass windows, fire-staining and grisaille painting, the Tiffany technique or glass fusing. He was… trained in Segovia and started doing glasswork in Málaga at a time when there were hardly any artisan glaziers in the city. Through study and experience he honed his skills to the point of being able to offer creative, innovative solutions for either new work or heritage restoration.
For six years Alberto was master glazier at the Molina Lario Trade School in Málaga, responsible for cleaning and consolidating the stained glass of the cathedral and for producing three new stained-glass windows. He is currently collaborating with the CSIC research agency on various projects and studies and has been recognised as a master glazier by the Government of Andalusia.
Alberto Cascón first learned his trade with the master glazier Rafael Davía Ramos in Segovia. He learned the fire-staining technique in the workshop of the renowned Belgian artist Rudy Belleman. He has also taken various courses in glass techniques and pedagogy.
As well as training apprentices in his workshop who have since been able to set up their own firms, he taught at the Molina Larios Trade School (Málaga) in 1996-2002.
