This workshop was set up to support religious confraternities with specialist issues arising in the fields of restoration of historic and artistic heritage, restoration in general and religious art in particular, offering a conscientious service of quality and also advice.
The creation of the workshop has… not only given continuity to two generations of master artisan gilders but has helped to preserve Andalusian historic and artistic heritage through the restoration of artworks notably including altarpieces, procession floats, sculptures, religious artefacts, glass gilding, etc.
The González brothers have plied their trade since an early age, first in the workshop of their father, Juan González, where they started out as apprentices and learnt the gilder’s craft. Later they developed their skills at some of the best-known Sevillian workshops, such as… those of Antonio Díaz or Manolo Calvo.
The Hermanos González gilding workshop has performed major projects across Andalusia although mainly in Seville and its province: gilding of the procession float of the Confraternity of Christ of the Good Death; float of the Conversion of the Good Thief (Montserrat); restoration of gilding on… the float of Our Father Jesus of the Pasion; float of Jesus Stripped of his Clothes and altar of Christ Afflicted by Thirst and Saint Mary of Consolation; gilding of the altarpiece of the Holy Christ of Expiration (“El Cachorro”); altarpiece of the Confraternity of Peace in Seville; and restoration of the altarpiece of the Assumption in Cantillana. In Huelva province: gilding of the float of Our Father Jesus of Nazareth; float of Our Lady of Consolation, patron saint of Cartaya; and gilding of the float of Our Lady of the Star in Chucena.
