In Artesanía en Vidrio J. Sorribes, S.L. the pieces are elaborated according to the most ancient and traditional methods such as blown glass and manual cutting and polishing, preserving the care and perfection of purely artisanal techniques. These pieces are worked on one by one,… individually, without using any sort of moulds or machinery, using the same tools that were used in the early days of the craft. It is in this way that one can achieve the desired finish. There is a greater attention set on detail with the utmost care.
The enamelling of the glass is applied in a similar way to that used when decorating pottery and porcelain elements. The vitrifying colours are made of colour additive substances – generally metal oxides – and fluxes – vitrifying compounds that are both a means and a fixing agent of the colourings on the supporting element. To be able to fuse at a low temperature, these designed fluxes are scarce in silica and very rich in lead and borax.
The manual cutting and polishing of glass requires many years of training and learning. It gives each piece an added value coming from the experience of the artisan who, after manipulating the glass, turns each piece which he creates into something unique and unrepeatable. Thus, the beauty of the glass object is enhanced. Looking at it from an overall perspective, is when one can really appreciate its harmony. It can be asserted that there are never two exact same pieces.
They belong to the third generation of glass artisans. His father was his master, even though he also attended different courses, and as it is a craft where experimenting is crucial, it can also be said he is partially self-taught.
