Carmelo Blanco Sánchez is a specialist in plasterwork, a trade in which he has been engaged for 40 years. With the team of his firm, Itálica Decoraciones, he does restorations and also new projects. Carmelo has vast expertise in the craft of gypsum and plaster… and its traditional techniques and materials, although he also uses industrial techniques and materials if the needs of a job so demand.
Itálica Decoraciones makes special features, restores and conserves architectural and artistic elements, renders facades and produces religious artefacts and stage or film sets.
Their restorations start with a study of the documentation supplied, especially graphical documents such as drawings, designs and photos. They prepare moulds of all pieces, whatever their state of preservation, and make reproductions as required. Where the nature of a project means that it cannot be carried out in their workshop, they take samples or make moulds in situ.
In some of their work they have also used 3D scan technology for items whose fragility or inaccessibility makes them hard to work with in other ways.
Their extensive experience in plasterwork resulting in their being awarded the craft certificate issued by the regional government of Valencia.
Carmelo Sánchez Blanco taught himself his trade.
He has trained many apprentices.
