Cipriano Escribano is a builder specialised in traditional construction and refurbishment. His work ranges from the building of whole houses, mainly in rural settings, to hydraulic structures for traditional irrigation, such as water channels and their attendant infrastructure.
He masters a great variety of techniques: dry-stone… walling, stone, earth and lime walls, rammed-earth and adobe walls, rendering with loam and lime, trabadillo lime and plaster renders, wooden and cane roofing, roof-tiling techniques, terracotta flooring, etc.
Cipriano works with local materials: earth, stone, wood and lime, which he sources where possible from the vicinity of the worksite.
The tools he uses are very varied, and mostly traditional.
Cipriano’s training started at home with his father. Later he carried on learning from other local artisans and by taking courses.
Cipriano has trained several apprentices during the building of various projects. He has also given courses in masonry and dry-stone walling, limewash and lime-plaster renders in Albacete province.
