Francisco Nevado Durán manufactures leaded stained glass windows, both religious and non-religious, following a process characterized by the following steps:

– Developing a scaled draft drawing to be presented to the client.
– Real-sized drawing once the draft has been approved by the client.
– Cutting of all… the glass pieces following the different shapes and colours which have been decided.
– Leading up of the glass pieces.
– Welding of the stained glass with tin on both sides of the piece.
– Caulking of the stained glass window on its outer face to give it more consistency.
– Placing of the stained glass window in its corresponding place.

If the stained glass window needs to be painted (religious motives, heraldic shields, etc.), once the glass pieces are cut, the glazes or corresponding shadows are carried out in order to acquire the desired finishing. Each step within the process of painting must be consolidated by firing the glass in the oven between 600º and 620º (the adequate temperature for glass). For painting the glass the artisan uses grisailles or enamels, metal oxides, which by means of heat, become adhered to the glass. If it is restoration, the process is more meticulous, since the artisan must work on something pre-existing and therefore the aim is to maximize the number of original elements which can be preserved.
