ACTIVITY
In his workshop José Luis makes various forms of woodwork and woodcraft, such as traditional timber roofing or restored mill and waterwheel mechanisms.
He uses not only the machines of his trade but also hand tools, all with a long tradition in woodwork, for rebuilding wooden… structures or features of any kind on traditional models.
He has also done some dry-stone masonry, such as the rebuilding of a gurrutxo, a hut typical of the Tafalla area as used by shepherds as shelters next to their sheepfolds.
In his work he seeks to apply his trade’s historic practices and know-how so as to offer craft solutions to the building needs of today as well as to restoring the buildings and other structures of old.
TRAINING
He has learned woodworking techniques in an eminently practical way, over 40 years in the trade.
SELECTED WORK
Notable examples of his work, especially in the region of Navarra, are:
– Restoration of the timber structure of the windmill of La Guerinda
– Refurbishment of the former hospital house in Calle Túbal in Tafalla
– Various work at the Palace of the Archbishop of Navarra and… other refurbishments of private houses across the region
– Dry-stone restoration of a gurrutxo, a typical hut of the Tafalla area, using stone from the vicinity
