ACTIVITY
Nuria Casadevall belongs to a Barcelona family of stuccoists that has worked in the trade continuously since 1881.
Nuria Casadevall’s work centres on the restoration and recovery of stucco renders, using different techniques and applying various types of finish.
She masters a whole range of techniques involving… the use of lime in rendering facades and masonry; the crafts she turns her hand to most often are sgraffito and hot-ironed stucco, along with the restoration of mural paintings.
Much of her work focusses on the recovery of archaeological heritage; accordingly she believes it is essential to be able to preserve the expertise behind such time-honoured crafts so that they may continue to be passed on and learned.
TRAINING
She is part of the fourth generation of this family of Barcelona stuccoists, and learned the trade with her father, her uncle and her brother.
She studied painting technique at the Massana School in Barcelona and archaeological conservation and restoration at the Barcelona Provincial Council’s School… of Arts and Crafts.
TEACHING
She spends a large part of her time disseminating lime stucco techniques, giving many courses, workshops and talks in which theory is complemented with practice.
