Juan Ángel does all kinds of work with stone such as marble or granite.
The more elaborate architectural elements that he makes notably include capitals, corbels and friezes. He does carving of all kinds, for ornamental, funerary or religious artefacts.
The material he receives from the quarry… is cut up as appropriate for each object with the aid of cutting machines for roughing, so as to prepare the stone for carving. Once an even surface has been achieved, a design is hand-drawn on the stone and a precise carving process begins, using handheld electrical tools and in some cases a diamond disc, depending on the material worked and the finish sought, and in other cases using a toothed chisel or bush hammer in the time-honoured fashion.
Juan Ángel learnt the craft at a tender age in various stone workshops in Almería province, though he also served a year with the sculptor Juan López Ballesteros, refining his technique and design skills.
He later worked in various firms in the sector until finally becoming… self-employed.
