Arteforja Juan Manuel Canseco Perera, “Arteforja JMC”, is a business founded during the nineties, in the locality of Villafranca de los Barros, within the province of Badajoz. It is project arisen from the inheritance of a family tradition of artisans from the region of Extremadura,… who from the early 20th century on have been working and elaborating all sorts of pieces relating to artisanal forging and artistic locksmithing, transmitting their knowledge from one generation to the next until today.
The main objective of the business is based on the values and traditions they were taught by the previous generations who dedicated their professional life to forge and locksmithing. They manufacture all sorts of elements, from spiral staircases or the most technical locksmithing elements, to forged iron furniture designed ad-hoc for each client.
All the pieces they manufacture are unique and are elaborated in an artisanal way. There is nothing standardized in their work. Each forged piece they carry out is original, traditional, robust and resistant, the type of item thought to last a lifetime.
The craft is taught from one generation to the next. Juan Manuel learnt the craft from the artisan masters Cándido Canseco Santiago and Manuel Canseco López.
Various apprentices have been trained in the traditional techniques that this family keeps alive in their workshop, located in Villafranca de los Barros.
