Ubidena Baserria/Caserío Ubidena – 01165 Oleta
Kepa Uribarren’s work revolves around wood, a material he knows well after years of working it in diverse ways, from sculpture to making walnut stocks for shotguns, or the design and manufacture of exclusive tables also of walnut.
Although in his time he has made wooden… doors and floor frameworks, he specialises in wooden flooring, especially of oak, which he manufactures and then lays using long boards with widths of 25 to 30 cm. These are treated with wholly natural oils and waxes to give protection and a fine finish.
Basic training at the Vitoria-Gasteiz Arts and Crafts School with specialisation in sculpture and joinery.
He also served two years in the workshop of the carver Iñaki Ruiz Navarro in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Kepa has given woodcarving courses in various Basque towns including Arrasate, Ochandiano, Rentería and Oñate.
