Kimberly specialises in the application of sgraffito, a technique that she applies with traditional materials: lime putty, mineral pigments and various aggregates.
She uses the sgraffito techniques of Segovia such as sgraffito with various tints, sgraffito on a single smooth coat of render, sgraffito with coloured… filling or lime sgraffito.
She also does fresco painting using smooth lime stucco painted fresh with mineral pigments.
Given the artisanal nature of her work, each rendering she does is unique. With the sgraffito technique, she breathes life into wall surfaces with an interplay of reliefs, juxtaposed colours and textures and the resulting forms. All of these sensations are achieved with work involving just lime, trowels and floats.
She studied fine arts in Puebla (Mexico). She also took a degree course in wall renderings in Segovia. She has participated in courses given by various master artisans such as Lauren Coquemont, a specialist in natural construction; Alejandro Morfin, a restorer specialised in murals by… Diego Rivera, in Mexico City; Luis Prieto, a specialist in pigments and stuccos; and Pablo Guerra García, a specialist in conservation and restoration of architectural heritage.
She gives courses on sgraffito techniques applied to murals. She has delivered sgraffito workshops in Mexico, in Puebla, Oaxaca, Nayarit and Mexico state, as well as in Spain and Portugal.
Notable examples of her work include:
Sgraffito mural at the Artisans’ Guild in Segovia
Contribution to a sgraffito mural at the Andrés Laguna school in Segovia
Collaboration in a fresco mural at Hotel Casona de los Sapos in Puebla (Mexico)
Sgraffito mural at the facilities of the firm Oxical… in Puebla (Mexico)
Collaboration with the firm Oxical, a producer of air lime, in Puebla (Mexico), developing lime mortars and lime paints and delivering workshops on the uses of lime
