This is a firm of traditional structural carpenters who make new wooden structures or restore old ones such as floors, roofs, Mudéjar ceilings and other features (staircases, flooring, spires, doorways, etc.).
They use local wood, reusing original timber in existing buildings where possible, with the assembly… and jointing techniques of the carpenters of old. They also apply protective treatments against biotic and abiotic agents (such as wood-eating insects, UV light, damp or fire), as well as general decorative wood finishes.
Roberto de las Heras is self-taught, although he has received influence and learning from various sources: the works of the architect Enrique Nuere, the teachings of the master carpenter Valeriano Gómez Teja, the experiences of Central American carpenters or his own observation of wooden roof… structures.
He has taken various courses, such as a master’s in refurbishment and restoration at Alcalá University as well as further training at various centres in Spain.
His firm has done a range of work: old Mudéjar ceilings (in Utrera, Ayamonte, Seville, Toledo or Soria), new Mudéjar ceilings (for the Cathedral of Toledo), or projects on historic buildings (churches, monasteries, etc.).
