Francesc Ibáñez is a builder with 38 years’ experience who works in the region of Catalonia. His trade involves the use of many traditional techniques: lime and clay mortars, Catalan vaults, dry stonework, various forms of paving, work with cane and plant fibres, stuccos and… renders, sgraffito, etc.
Ever since he started learning the trade with his father and other builders, his wish to learn has led him to amass knowledge through experience on worksites. Early on he also noticed how little waste is generated by this kind of building, and the benefits that this involves with a view to the future.
One of the working techniques learned from his father that he keeps alive is that of stacking tiles in a spiral to reduce pressure and avoid damage or breakage until they can be re-laid on a new roof.
His enthusiasm and dedication to his trade mean that his work involves constant learning.
Francesc was taught by his father.
He has delivered workshops on various forms of work with lime, clay and plant fibres.
