Jaume Alujas Perelló masters several trades in the field of masonry and restoration, and works with traditional techniques and designs.
He uses a range of natural materials including stone, lime, plaster, clay, iron or wood, which he employs for making diverse structures in a great many… settings. The reuse of materials so as to give them a second life is a theme in his work. Thus he often uses materials from demolitions in new projects, whether for structural purposes or merely as decoration.
The various traditional techniques in which he is proficient notably include the building of stone vaults and arches, masonry walls and stone floors or the application of finishes with traditional materials. Also worth noting is his mastery in the execution of timbrel vaults, which he has made with diverse geometries.
Jaume is a third-generation mason, of the sort who still conceives of the trade like the masons of old. He acquired much of his expertise and technical skill from the teachings of various master artisans, and by referring to building treatises of the late 19th… and early 20th centuries.
He has taken and trained several apprentices, who through being part of his team have acquired practical experience in the trade.
From his ample portfolio we may highlight restorations of facades and rural dwellings dating back as far as the 16th century, as well as the erection of all sorts of timbrel vaults. Notable examples his work are:
– Restoration of an Art Nouveau facade in Tarragona
–… Restoration of a 12th-century castle in the Alt Camp district near Tarragona
– Building of a groin vault in a 16th-century farmhouse
