At Stuccs they are specialized artisans in traditional lime stuccoes and restoration of stone ornamental elements.
In the field of lime stuccoes, they work with two fundamental fields: restoration and creation of new compositions.
They work with stucco in all of their techniques and finishes: sgraffito, hot-ironed… stucco, fresco painting, plastering, scraping, stone ashlar elements…or a combination of them.
For the execution of these works they manufacture their own mortars on-site. The intervening elements are the same ones which have been used from time immemorial: water, putty, sand and mineral pigments. The proportions, granulometries and procedure of pigmenting the mass vary from one commission to another, with the aim of giving the mortar the specific properties each supporting element and finishing requires, and giving it the character of a protective and decorative layer, which makes it extraordinarily exceptional.
They use the same tools that those used by classical stucco makers, which in fact, do not largely differ from those used by masons: grout floats, plastering trowels, trowels, pointing trowels, picks, brushes, paintbrushes, scrubbing brushes, penknives, scrapers, punches, tools for ironing, spatulas, cangrejos, levelling tools, plummets, rulers, drawers, buckets, baskets, weighing machines, muñecas de carbón, implements to enable stencilling,…
The work starts with the manufacture of the mortar and the adequate period of time it is left to set. In parallel, it is necessary to plan the work period according to the surface area to be worked on and the finish that is required. This action of planning beforehand is very important since the tasks must be tackled from beginning to end. The timeline is decided according to the physiognomy of the space, bearing in mind this important aspect.
Humidity is a key factor in the execution of lime stuccoes and it must be controlled at all times to ensure it is the adequate amount throughout each process, whether for the appliance of the different layers of mortar or for the final finish. It is essential to get to know how to reach, maintain and recognize the exact point of moisture required in every step. At the same time, it is key to have the skill to execute each phase respecting the timings the materials themselves establish.
Antonio Pérez Camacho starts his studies in Mural Techniques at the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny in Vic, in 1981. There, he established his first contact with the world of lime via the professor and master stucco maker Carles Solé. In the year 1986,… when he finishes his studies, he sets up Stuccs with the tutoring of Carles.
They have received occasional visits from students from the School of Arts in Vic during the restoration works carried out for different requests.
