Ovidi is a craftsman specialised in the manufacture of traditional wild-olive wooden fences, railings, farm implements and water wheels. He uses the traditional techniques characteristic of these Menorcan artefacts, assuring quality and durability.
Ovidi uses native wood which he procures himself, felling timber during old moons… in January and August, as at these times the wood is of better quality. It is dried naturally over at least 18 months.
In his manufacturing process he uses the basic machines introduced into the trade in the mid-20th century, such as the band-saw, electric plane or mortiser. He also uses traditional hand tools, such as adzes, rasps or chisels, especially when fitting joints, which he always does with an adze.
He has received various awards for his work and holds the “Carta de Mestre Artesà” master artisan’s certificate.
Ovidi learned his trade in the workshop of the master Pedro Pons, where he was trained over nine years.
