DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

Pablo Costilludo has spent the last 30 years working in the carving of stone, both for architectural elements such as façades, cornices, gargoyles or reliefs, and for works of a more sculptural and artistic nature. He has also carried out a large number of restorations of constructive and decorative elements in various churches..

He mainly works with limestone and sandstone, even though, on occasions, he also uses marble or bronze. When it comes to restorations he always uses the pointing technique and lime mortar, maintaining, as far as possible, most part of the original element.

To that purpose, he uses traditional methods and tools such as the tooth chisel, the chisel, the bull point chisels or the bell hammer. Depending on the specific work to be carried out, he combines these traditional tools with other more recent ones.

APPRENTICESHIP

When he was quite young he went into the School of Arts in Toledo. However, it was for a very short period of time since he soon had to go back to his place of origin. Since then, all his learning was self-taught, although he also attended different courses such as the Course on Treatises and Technology in the Intervention on Buildings (Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo), and courses at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Crafts in Toledo, at the School/Workshop on Restoration in Consuegra, and at the School of San Servolo in Venice.

TEACHING

He has been a masonry instructor at the School/Workshop in Consuegra and in the one in Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real).

He has carried out and still carries out pedagogical courses and stone workshops in his own workshop.

Every year he incorporates to his workshop a series of students to carry out their practical studies in masonry. These students come from the School of Arts in Toledo.
