C/ San Pedro Mártir, 5 – 41001 Sevilla
The Marmolejo craft workshop was founded by the distinguished goldsmith Fernando Marmolejo Camargo in 1940. Today his sons Juan José, Alejandro and Manuel Marmolejo Hernández continue the tradition, undertaking a great range of original work and restoration jobs with sterling silver: religious objects, insignias or… artefacts for processional brotherhoods, archaeological replicas, altars, fireplaces, pedestals, etc.
The tools of their trade are hammers and chisels. They have more than 200 chisels made by themselves to suit the needs of each workpiece.
The process for each piece starts with a design study and the preparation of drawings. Next they make a life-size cardboard model. After the study stage they model the piece in wood and finally coat it, normally with silver leaf.
The Marmolejo brothers have been learning the trade since they were children. Their father, Fernando Marmolejo Camargo, was also their master. Later the three of them completed their training at the Seville School of Arts and Crafts over six years, studying fields such as line-drawing,… modelling, history or artistic drawing.
Many apprentices have been trained at the Marmolejo workshop. Formerly there was always someone there learning.
