Calle San Bartolomé, 53 – 45611 Parrillas
The team of Alfarjes Toledanos, led by Antonio Gabaldón, specialises in the design, manufacture and assembly of new traditionally decorated wooden ceilings, seeking to revitalise this distinctive feature of Toledan architecture.
The firm uses traditional techniques and materials to create unique articles for each project. In… terms of composition and structure, their designs involve ornamental woodwork that may be either flat or coffered. One, two or three arrays of crossbeams are fitted depending on the size of the room to be covered over or the design preferred. The decoration – polychrome on planed or carved wood, gilding, gold varnish, etc. – is inspired by the Toledan alfarje beam and panel ceilings built between the 13th and 16th centuries.
The Alfarjes Toledanos team has also developed a method for installing these ceilings under existing floors with brackets and anchors to the wall and to the existing ceiling. These updated assembly methods are intended to be a way of giving a new life to many original wooden ceilings currently lying about in storerooms and basements.
