Forja Ocampo is a workshop largely devoted to the study and recovery of artistic blacksmithing techniques and styles, and in particular grillwork. One of its main contributions has been the recovery of the ironworking method known as Reja del Diablo, i.e. devil’s grille.
It often collaborates… with the Japanese firm Naldic in the manufacture of urban ornamentation.
Juan Andrés studied artistic blacksmithing at the Higher School of Design and Applied Arts in Motril (Granada province) and in Baeza (Jaén province), graduating in Applied Arts – Blacksmithing.
– Guest lecturer at Seian University of Art and Design in Shiga, Japan
– Talks at blacksmiths’ conferences on his speciality, the devil’s grille, in Spain, France, Italy, Japan and, coming up, Argentina
– He has given personal courses to Enric Pla, Thomas Mink, Ramón Recuero and… Julio Ríos, among many others
As a shipwright blacksmith he took part in the reconstruction of the frigate Hermione in Rochefort (France)
He has shown his work at the Sowaka Gallery in Kyoto and Gallery La Escena in Nagoya
His work is also on show in the Museum of Folk Arts and… Traditions at the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Museum of Mysteries in Paimpont (Britany, France), the “Maison des Forgerons” smithing museum south of Lyon (France), the town hall of A Fonsagrada (Lugo province) and the town hall of Alpens (Barcelona province)
