The team at Antonio González Romero’s workshop are specialists in traditional Andalusian grillwork. They make a range of items such as stair railings, wrought-iron balconies, front doors, iron gates, etc.
They use traditional methods such as riveting, crimping, blueing and forge finishing.
Their raw material is soft… iron and their main implements are anvils, hammers, tongs, punches and above all their forge.
Antonio learned his craft at the Lebrija Trade School directed by Donald Gray, where the pupils would learn from scratch, make their own tools and do everything by hand: they would assemble workpieces with rivets, crimping patterns with clamps, and make artefacts in the forge… to be subsequently filed down and blued with oil. Today they continue to use these techniques.
Several apprentices have been trained in the workshop.
