Artesanía Hoyos Marcos S.L. is a firm that has been devoted to carpentry, joinery and cabinetmaking for nearly 50 years. Its tradition and craftsmanship spring from the artisan Tomás Hoyos and it specialises in solid woodwork and craft woodcarving.
It has a workshop of 1000 square… metres given over to carpentry and wood storage, allowing its staff to have materials in optimal condition at their disposal at any time.
They make windows, doors, floors, roof frameworks and Mudéjar ceilings.
Although their work is wholly artisanal and they continue to use traditional techniques for their building systems and special joints, they have also brought in new woodworking technologies to meet the requirements of today’s market.
Thus they work with new milling systems for wood profiling, built-in fittings with Crémone bolts for windows, tilt-and-turn designs, finishes with water-based varnishes, and double glazing, giving their wooden windows high performance in both thermal and acoustic insulation.
They use high-quality lock systems with GU-approved fittings in espagnolette bolts and hinges as well as wrought-iron hinges giving their windows character and ruggedness.
For exterior joinery in Castilla y León, whose continental climate exposes materials to a wide temperature range with plenty of rain and also fierce sunshine, the best choice of wood today is chestnut. Its high tannin content makes it especially water-resistant, and in the sun its medium density and hardness allow it to expand or contract as required without cracking or fissuring.
As to Mudéjar wooden ceilings, the province of Salamanca boasts one of the finest collections in Spain. In Castilla y León generally there are untold examples in diverse styles. Artesanía Hoyos Marcos has made these ceilings for private houses and also public buildings such as hotels. Each one is unique, with an exclusive design for each project, and both the joinery and the carving are done by hand.
They are also custodians of a tradition in the building of roof structures in the Sierra de Francia district, with many distinctive features: wooden ceilings, king-post trusses, cantilevered overhangs, wide eaves, etc.
They learnt their trade from their father, the craftsman Tomás Hoyos, who was self-taught.
They have had several apprentices, who in due course have gone on to set up on their own. Tomás Hoyos taught at the Trade School of La Alberca.
In recent years they have done quite a number of jobs for private houses as well as large projects for public amenities and hotels, such as Hotel Don Fabrique in Alba de Tormes, Hotel Villa de Mogarraz in Mogarraz, Hotel Abadía de los Templarios in… La Alberca, La Alberca Secondary School, El Aserradero Rural Hotel, etc.
