The Rodríguez Arxiz carpentry shop makes traditional balconies, verandas, loggias, gateways, bay windows, staircases or roofs and floors according to traditional models, as well as wooden ceilings for rural houses and stately homes in Galicia.
Their work process is as follows:
– Demolition and/or reclaiming of… existing materials
– Measurement, calculation and sizing
– Craft manufacture of most pieces in the workshop, e.g. columns, railings, bay windows, frames, staircases, etc.
– Manufacture of trusses, rafters and beams in situ
They use mostly hardwoods such as chestnut and oak, though for certain work they prefer more exotic woods, for their resistance to the sun and the elements.
For detailed woodwork they use mainly hand tools (chisels, axes, gouges, etc.), although many pieces are made with shop machines allowing greater precision in a relatively short time (a planer, sliding table saw, spindle moulder, mortiser, etc.).
They make their pieces and structures on traditional models but consistent with current standards. The idea is to keep the traditional style by using traditional techniques albeit adapted to today’s requirements. Thus they provide for enhanced thermal and acoustic comfort and allow for issues in indoor environments, fitting protection against condensation and damp.
