ACTIVITY
Javier Rodríguez Gallinar does artisan woodwork and cares deeply about carpentry. In particular he makes exterior doors and windows of chestnut wood for traditional mountain houses.
Alongside his work as a carpenter, he has built up a museum collection of some 2000 antique tools of manual… woodworking trades, along with ethnographic artefacts. This display is housed in what for three generations was the village carpentry shop. The current wood workshop is on the adjoining premise.
TRAINING
Javier started learning at home, working as a child with his father Celedonio and his grandfather Julio Yarzábal. After his higher secondary education he trained at the El Prial Vocational Training Centre. He received further training when working for Ebanistería Cantora and Muebles El Castro,… both in Infiesto, in 1988 and 1999.
TEACHING
He gave carpentry instruction at the Amieva Trade School in 1989 and 1990 and has collaborated on successive occasions with the El Prial Training Centre with a total of 6 students on placements. He has given various carving and furniture restoration courses at the town… halls of Ponga and Amieva. He contributed with cultural content to the fairs BEC Ferroforma 2009, Fimma Maderalia 2009 (in Valencia) and the Oviedo Ascension Fairs in 2007-12, offering public demonstrations.

Hotel Puente Vidosa in the Ponga Natural Park, Casa Severa in the village of Sobrefoz, balcony of Ponga Town Hall, amenities and ethnographic and cultural content for the Ponga Natural Park Reception Centre, refurbishment of galleries with grants from the Ponga Natural Park within a… plan for supporting folk architecture in Taranes (Asturias), sundry furniture, etc. Regional Craft Prize (Christmas 2002).
