José Manuel Alarcón works as a plasterer in the spheres of decoration and historic heritage.
His projects start with on-site moulding and classification so that in his workshop he can rebuild and carve the originals, making moulds and casts, recreating pieces and finally preparing their installation… in situ. Over the years his work methods have evolved with the times and today he makes fewer rigid casts, and newer materials such as brushable silicone have facilitated mould-making work.
José Manuel learned his trade in a wholly artisanal and self-taught way, although he was also guided by his elder brother in the family firm (Arte y Formas), also based in Hondón de las Nieves.
During his time in Arte y Formas he worked in the field of heritage at the Chapi Theatre (Villena), the Castelar Theatre (Elda), the Gran Teatro de Elche (Alicante), the Huerto Ruano Palace (Lorca), and in various convents and churches also in the provinces of… Alicante and Murcia.
A project that he submitted to a competition was the restoration of the Church of San Pedro y San Pablo on the isle of Tabarca, performed in May-October 2015 with his brother and involving a range of restoration work including castings, originals, mouldings, reproductions, installation and finishes.
