Pablo Romero Boldt is a specialist in traditional decorative tiling. He has been crafting handmade nameplates, plaques, pictures, number plates, plinth tiles, etc. for over 30 years, as well as ceramic artefacts thrown on a potter’s wheel. Pablo loves conservation and is passionate about what… he does.
In his early work he focussed on landscapes and ornamental themes, though he then began to receive commissions from religious associations and communities.
His work involves the use of industrial or handcrafted tiles to which he applies ceramic glazes and oxides, using brushes. He normally mixes several different glazes so as to achieve finer shades of colour.
Pablo uses the Pisano technique, in which the colours are dissolved in water for painting. The peculiarity of this craft is that the tiles’ colours, lustre and texture are very different once they have been fired.
Pablo learned the trade in various ceramic workshops in Calle Alfarería (“Pottery Street”) in Seville.
Practical assignments with students from the Málaga School of Applied Arts.
