ACTIVITY
This artistic wrought-iron workshop known as “El Francés” is located in Belmonte (Cuenca province). It is a traditional family firm that has been devoted to blacksmithing for over a hundred years.
Pedro J. Martínez (“El Francés”) is notable for the manufacture by craft techniques of iron… grillwork, railings, fittings, frames, furniture and sculptures.
In his workshop he designs and produces new artefacts as well as restoring and renovating damaged ones. Accordingly he uses both traditional methods and new techniques and technology.
TRAINING
Pedro J. Martínez learned the trade by family tradition: his great-grandfather, grandfather, father and uncle were also blacksmiths.
TEACHING
Courses delivered in his blacksmith’s forge with trade schools, and training of apprentices.
